There are many different retailers and shopping options to choose from online. When it comes to online shopping, huge numbers of us head to online marketplaces such as eBay. These are sites that have become well known for providing access to a huge variety of products from around the world. Whatever you are looking to purchase, the chances are that you will find it on eBay and more often at a very good price. Many people go to the website in order to save money and enjoy incredible choice – many even head to sites such as VoucherBin UK in order to enjoy even bigger savings on the eBay site.

However, there have also been a number of very high value items sold on eBay and below are some of the most expensive to have been bought through the site.

Amongst the most expensive things sold

Amongst the most expensive things that have been sold on eBay to date are:

  • The Hollywood sign: Iconic and familiar with people from all around the world, the Hollywood sign is not the original. The first Hollywood sign, which was replaced by the modern one in the 1970s, actually read ‘Hollywoodland’ and it was sold for just over $450,000 on eBay after ten days of bidding.
  • Baseball bat belonging to Joe Jackson: One of the best known baseball players of the 1900s, Joe Jackson once found himself involved in a scandal along with others on his team because they lost a game to make money. The bat that Jackson used became known as Black Betsy and was passed down to his nephew. He in turn sold it on eBay in 2001 for close to $578,000.
  • Ferrari Enzo: In the mid 2000s, a spectacular vehicle was put up for auction in the form of a Ferrari Enzo, of which a limited number had been made at the time. This stunning vehicle managed to sell for a cool $1 million.
  • A California town: Ebay is known for selling pretty much anything and everything – after all, where else could you buy an actual town? The town of Bridgeville in California was put up for sale on the auction site in the early 2000s. It was purchased for nearly $1.8 million although the buyer did eventually sell it on.
  • A Texas town: On the back of the success of the Bridgeville town sale on eBay, it wasn’t long before another town was put up for sale. This was the town of Albert in Texas. However, it sold for only $216,000 at first. The purchaser then made improvements and put it back up for sale after having made improvements. It then sold for a whopping $2.5 million.
  • Lunch with a billionaire: Most people know that the investor and business magnate, Warren Buffet, is also a philanthropist. Each year, Buffet allows people to bid on eBay in order to have lunch with him and the money goes to a charitable cause. At 2010, the bidding war to enjoy this lunch reached fever pitch with the winning bid coming in at $2.6 million.
  • Rare comic: Superman is a name that is known all around the world, but when he first appeared in Action Comics in the 1930s, most people weren’t interested as they had no idea who this hero was. These days, those who have a mint copy of the first edition – of which there are now reportedly only three worldwide – can really cash in. This was proven in 2014 when a copy of the comic was purchased for $3.2 million on eBay.
  • Aircraft: When you go onto eBay you can even splash out on a private jet – if you have the money, of course. In fact, aircraft – namely the Gulfstream II – became a huge seller on the site some years ago. In fact, in 2001 a company purchased a Gulfstream II that had been put up for sale for no less than $4.9 million.
  • Yacht: There are yachts…and then there are yachts. One yacht that was put up for sale on eBay was the Gigayacht, which was huge and boasted all of the facilities and amenities you could hope for. When the yacht was put up for sale in 2006 a billionaire, purchased it for a massive $168 million. The yacht had everything from a cinema and gym to a helicopter landing area and it was purchased by the wealthy owner of Chelsea Football Club.

As you can see, there are all sorts of things that have been sold on eBay over the years, ranging from memorabilia and comics through towns, cars, yachts and more. Collectively the most expensive items to have been sold have made huge amounts of cash for their sellers.
