Last week, we received some reports from users that tell us about an unexpected error after upgrading to Windows 10. As they said, when they try to wake their computer up from hibernation or sleep mode, the KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR (or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR) BSOD error show up.

In fact, this Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) error not only appears in Windows 10 but also occurs in Windows 7, Windows 8 as well as 8.1. This error occurs on your Windows computer because there is some problem with reading or loading information from or to the pagefile.

In simple words, it means your Windows OS has trouble to read information from the memory. It can happen to all types of memory on your computer: virtual memory, your hard drives and your RAM.

When the Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error occurs, it will turn your computer screen into a blue screen, stops all running program and shut down the whole system.

The KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR BSOD error points out to the fact that a particular page of kernel data from the paging file couldn’t read into memory. In most cases, some errors on your hard driver, or bad sector can lead to this problem. So, checking your hard drive (HDD) for errors could help to fix the issue.

Use Chkdsk Command To Find And Fix Hard Drive Errors

To run chkdsk command, right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Command Prompt (Admin)

If you are using Windows 7, click on the Start button, type cmd.exe in the search box, and then right-click on “cmd.exe” and select “Run as Administrator”.

In the window of the Command Prompt program, type: chkdsk C: /r /f /x and then press Enter. The C: in this case should be the system partition where your Windows OS is installed.

Checking your system partition is easy. Just press Windows + E to launch My Computer or My PC window. In the File Explorer window, you can see the drive where Windows OS installed. It should have a Windows logo on it.

In case the “KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR” BSOD error prevents you to accessing Windows, start your computer in Safe Mode.

This command will automatically scan and fix errors in your hard drive if any error exists. Sometimes, it may ask you to reboot your computer to allow the command get started.

After determining that everything is fine with your hard drive, but the error remains. Then maybe there is an issue in your RAM. You have to run “RAM Diagnostic Tool” to see if there is any problem with your RAM memory. And then find an appropriate solution to fix this BSOD error, based on the reports of the RAM Diagnostic Tool.

Click on the Start button and search for “Windows Memory Diagnostic” and then open it. You can easy to open this tool by pressing Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box and type: “mdsched.exe” and then press Enter.

Select “Restart now and check for problems“. Your computer will restart automatically, and start to check your RAM. Once the process has done, the Memory Diagnostic tool will show you problems (if it found any) and suggest you appropriate solutions to fix or repair your RAM.

Uncheck The “Automatically Manage Paging File Size For All Drives” Option

Sometimes, the Virtual Memory in Windows may cause this BSOD error. To fix this issue, you must disable “Virtual Memory” (aka Pagefile) from System Properties on your Windows OS. We have mentioned this method in the previous article, read more from here.

Fix KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR Error By Checking Drivers And System Files

Most cases, the “KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR” occurs on your Windows computer due to memory issues. But if it comes with a particular .sys file, then maybe corrupted drivers or system files are caused this error.

Just go to website and enter that .sys file and then search for the full name of it. For example: If the error shows “Msfs.SYS“, just enter it in the search box and click “Search” button.

In this case, you should use sfc /scannow command to scan and repair any corrupted Windows system files. It will help you to solve this BSOD error immediately.

Tip: Determine corrupted Windows drivers and reinstall it could help to fix the problem too.

If all above methods didn’t help you to eliminate the error, we would suggest you to use System Restore to roll back your Windows computer. Or maybe resetting your computer would help.

We hope after performing above methods, this problem will disappear, and you won’t receive the KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR (KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR) BSOD error again.
