Sometimes, when you are trying to open the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod to purchase and download new apps or games; but it did not work. You are unable to open it, and there was an error message: “Cannot Connect to iTunes Store”.

So what is this error and how to solve the problem?

This “cannot connect” error appears when you are trying to open the App Store or Game Center on your iOS devices, as well as iTunes store on your computer. Most cases, this error occurs due to internet connection issues, like unable to access the Internet or firewall / antivirus programs block the Internet connection.

Firstly, we would suggest you to check your Internet connection again, to make sure there is no problem with it. If you still able to use other programs to access to the Internet, such as browsers, email apps and chat apps; then just skip this step.

But if you are unable to use any other application with the Internet, try to reset your Wi-Fi router or modem by pressing the “Power” button to turn it off and press it again to turn on. If your Wi-Fi router / modem does not have a “Power” button, just unplug power cable, wait for a minute and then connect power cable to the router / modem.

  • Switch from Wi-Fi to 3G or 4G (if available).
  • Double-click on the “Home” button to open multi-tasking switcher, and close the App Store.
  • Open the App Store again and it will automatically connect successfully, by using 3G / 4G network.

In case you are on the 3G / 4G network and get this error, try to do opposite (switch from 3G / 4G network to Wi-Fi and re-open the App Store.

One more thing you need to check that if you used proxies in the last times and forgot to remove it, you might unable to access to the Apple Store or iTunes Store (because the proxy is dead and cannot connect through it anymore). So, simply remove the proxy and try to open the App Store or iTunes Store again.

Check The Date & Time And Make Sure It’s Correct

Connections between your devices and App Store or iTunes Store are transmitting through the SSL method. If the date and time on your device is wrong, the connection will be interrupted. You have to check and make sure the date and time is correct.

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod; go to Settings > General > Date & Time, and then switch on the “Set Automatically” feature.

If you have a firewall installed on your computer, it might prevent you access to the iTunes Store. Therefore, you have to configure your firewall to accept all connections to the iTunes Store.

You can also disable firewall temporarily or permanently, and re-open the iTunes Store.

The host file in your system may be caused this connection problem, and block the iTunes Store. If you are using Windows OS, check the host file and make sure there is no rule in there to block / reroute connections.
