7 Ways To Speed Up Your Slow Windows Computer

It’s not mean you have used your Windows computer for a while and then you need to optimize it to avoid slowness. It’s about how can you fix and optimize the computer that already running very slow. Don’t hesitate to give your Windows computer a restart if something is not working properly. It can help you fix a few simple problems that no need to manually troubleshoot and fix the issues by yourself.

Kill Program That Using A Lot Of Resources

Your computer is running slow because one or more program that using a lot of your resources, including CPU resources, RAM and memory disk (hard drives / SSDs). To find out which program is using a lot of your resources, open Task Manager by right click on your taskbar and select Task Manager. Or simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on your keyboard.

With the Task Manager, you can easy to find the program that using a lot of your CPU resources as well as RAM and disk. It’s easy to terminate the process by right click on the process you want to end and select End Process.

Close System Tray Programs

There are a lot of programs are still running in system tray after you have closed it. It might be a program that has started and running at startup or a program that you have used and quit it already. Anyway, it’s still running on the background and using your computer resources.

To close these programs, simply click on your system tray, and then right click on the program you want to close to free up your computer’s resources.

Disable Startup Programs

While installing programs on your computer, you might be not noticed a few programs have an option to enable/disable to launch on startup. If there are many unnecessary programs open on startup, your computer will slow down and take longer to load.

If you want to disable any program you don’t want to open while booting Windows, go to Start > Run > type msconfig to open System Configuration > select Startup tab, and then uncheck the item you don’t want to launch on startup.

From Windows 8, you are able to enable / disable startup items from Task Manager. Simply open Task Manager, go to Startup tab, select the item you want to enable / disable and then click on Enable or Disable button.

Free Up Your Disk Space

If your hard drive is almost full, the Windows operating system will notify you about this and ask you to clean up your disk. So if you want to give your computer some space to work on the hard drive, use the Disk Cleanup tool to clean your Windows temporary files, including setup log, download files, temporary internet files as well as offline web pages and other files. To open Disk Cleanup tool, right click on the disk you want to clean up, select Properties and then click on Disk Cleanup button.

Uninstall Programs That You Don’t Use

Sometimes, you have installed a few programs on your computer, use them for a short time and forget it, but it still remains on your computer. By uninstall unnecessary programs, it can help to speed up your computer as these programs might include autostart entries, background processes, system services and other things.

If you want to uninstall any program, simply go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, right click on the program you want to uninstall and select Uninstall.

Scan Your Computer For Virus, Malware And Adware

If your computer is affected by virus, malware, adware or any other malicious programs, it could run very slow because malicious programs are running in the background and take a lot of your resources.

I would suggest you to scan your computer with a good antivirus software and remove those malicious programs if exist.
