How to Open Blocked Websites with VPN and Proxy

You are in school or office and cannot access favorite websites, especially social network sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc? Here are few ways you can use to bypass restrictions, surfing the web and open blocked websites like normal.

1. Use VPN services

You may already know what a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is, and in case you don’t know yet, read more from Wikipedia.org.

2. Use proxy on browsers

There are a lot of websites that giving free proxies of many countries, you can check at here for examples.

How to insert proxies in your web browsers?

Mozilla Firefox

Select Tools > Options

Under the “Advanced” tab, select “Network” tab. Click “Settings” and select Manual proxy configuration. Insert the proxy you want to use under HTTP proxy.

Internet Explorer

Select Tools -> Internet Options > Connections tab. In the “Connections” tab, click on “LAN Settings”, stick “Proxy Server”.

Next, click on “Advanced” and insert your proxy URL onto the “HTTP” section.

Google Chrome

If you want to use proxy for Google Chrome, you must know it’s use default proxy settings of the computer, and you need to fill proxy into Internet Explorer browser.

3. Use web proxy (proxy websites)

Web proxy allows us to surfing websites and bypass the ISP’s IP and use a different IP connect to targeted website. Many users use web proxies for various reasons, such as access blocked websites, test their scripts or test geo-location ads and so on.

Many web proxies allow you to open blocked websites in advanced with a lot of features, like select proxy locations (countries, cities), allow cookies, encrypt URL, encrypt page, remove scripts and remove objects.

4. Change your DNS server

If your ISP blocked some websites, you can change your DNS server from default settings to the Google’s DNS server or the OpenDNS server to bypass restrictions.

Google’s DNS addresses are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
OpenDNS’ are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

How to change DNS server?

Microsoft’s Windows

Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.

Then click on “Change adapter settings”. Next, right click on your network adapter (which you want to change DNS server, such as LAN or Wireless).

Click on Internet Protocol Versions 4 > Properties. Stick “Use the following DNS server addresses” and fill the DNS server that you want to use into the box.

5. Retrieve web pages via email
