Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9 Comparison: Which is Better?

In this year Mobile World Congress 2015 trade show, both Samsung and HTC have announced two flagships and there are no reviews about these smartphones at this moment.

I’m writing this article to compare the Samsung’s flagship smartphone with the HTC One M9, about the advantages and disadvantages.

HTC One M9 advantages

High capacity of battery

Battery life is one of the most important factors of smartphone because when it’s empty, you can’t use your device anymore. Predecessor of HTC One M9: One M8 has a 2,600 mAh battery and this new HTC’s flagship come with a higher capacity of battery: a 2,840 mAh capacity, while Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh battery.

However, the new Exynos processor in the Galaxy S6 is based on 14-nm technology, not like the CPU in the Galaxy Note 4, as well as new DDR4 RAM. So I think it won’t make your S6 turning off in short time.

BoomSound sound system

When the first generation of HTC One released (One M7), it had the best speakers and now HTC is on it way to improve the audio quality in their smartphones. The HTC One M9 has dual BoomSound speakers and support for Dolby Surround technology to simulate 5.1 surround sound. So, this is a very good news for who want to play games on smartphones or just watch movies and view HD YouTube videos.

In this case, Samsung has moved the speaker from the back to the bottom. This is a great move for the Galaxy S6 and much better than other’s Samsung smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S6 advantages

Best main camera with optical image stabilization

Samsung has put a better camera into the Galaxy S6: a 16 megapixel main camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), f/1.9 and fast track AF feature. This is also a camera that used in the Galaxy Note 4, but with a lot of improvements.

Due to the camera comparison above (as you can see on the picture), Apple has released a website to list all beautiful images taking from iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus. Some kind of war ?

Meanwhile, HTC One M9 features a Sony 20 megapixel sensor and without OIS support.

2K Super AMOLED display

We can see 2K display is a new standard of 2015 smartphones, but HTC still uses full HD display in the One M9 and was used in the One M8. Samsung brings 2K display to Galaxy S6 with Super AMOLED panel and Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Amazing ?

Wireless charging

There are many types of wireless charging technology such as Pi, WPC and PMA. In the Samsung Galaxy S5, if you want to charge your device wirelessly, you must purchase a new replacement back cover. It’s not comfortable to users and no way to do the same with Galaxy S6 because the back cover can’t remove. So, Samsung listened to its users, and bring a built-in wireless charging into its new flagship.

Samsung also announced the wireless charging in the Galaxy S6 will also work with Swedish furniture maker IKEA, a company that make its furniture to support wireless charging technology for smart devices.

Unfortunately, HTC One M9 doesn’t come with a wireless charging feature and no way to charge your device wirelessly. Then if you have IKEA wireless charging lamps and tables in your home, it’s useless.

Processor, Software and Design

That are three points that we can’t comment about because both flagship smartphones come with octa-core (8-core) high-end processor: Exynos in Galaxy S6 and Snapdragon 810 in One M9; beautiful metal body and runs on Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop with its UI: Samsung’s TouchWiz and HTC’s Sense 7.

So if you are planning to buy a new Android smartphone, which one you will choose ?
